God Vs Superstitions

Most of the atheists (not all) whom I've met have their own flashback- a point when they stopped believing in God, because of some trauma in life when he was not loved or not saved by God! Then my dear friend, why do you think you are given with something called the sixth sense? Make some use of it to come out of your trauma rather than blaming God. Please stop treating God as a genie who gives you whatever you want even without thinking!
One cannot deny the existence of a super power around us. And this super power is named as God. (Discussing about the theory of the atheists is out of the scope of this post) :P
To me, God is the ray of hope. As said in the 'Geetha chaaram', we should do our duty and leave the rest to God- If it has to happen, it will. If not, 'hope' for a better ending and keep working. As you sow, so shall you reap! You cannot wait for something miraculous to happen without trying for it and end up blaming it on someone, or even God for that matter.
But over time, people have built so many stories about God. One such story is that of 'religion'. God never divided people in the name of religion, cast, creed, etc. It was people who did it in the name of God. You can keep listing for ages if you want to mention all those superstitions man has introduced (and is still introducing) in His name.
I know that it is difficult to change people who are superstitious as it has grown unimaginably deeper in their heads. But sitting idle and avoiding the society also doesn't seem to be the right choice. Something has to be planned and done immediately as time is ticking away and every minute thousands of people are being introduced to a superstitious belief! The least thing, I would suggest is, support someone who is being forced by others to practice superstitions.

P.S. Phew! This one seems to be a serious post!

LOL

Here are some funny quotes about marriages... Well, i didn't write them on my own.. Found them from various sources...

1. Marriages are made in heaven. But so are thunder and lightning.

2. Marriage is when a man and woman become as one. Trouble starts when they try to decide which one.

3. Marriage is give and take. You’d better give it to him or he’ll take it anyway.

4. My boyfriend and I always compromise. I admit I’m wrong and he agrees with me.

5. The Unmarried: Is there any way for long life?
Dr: Get married.
The Unmarried: Will it help?
Dr: No, but then the thought of long life will never come

6. Why do couples hold hands during their wedding?
It’s a formality just like two boxers shaking hands before the fight begins!

7. It’s funny when people discuss Love Marriage vs Arranged. It’s like asking someone, if suicide is better or being murdered.

8. There is only one perfect husband in the world and every neighbor has it.

I have a second life

"I can't go out for dinner tonight; I need to harvest my crops in two hours on FarmVille." (FarmVille)
"(Sweating and tensed) Hey, is your net connection good? Mine is down and I need to feed the rollercoaster operators or they will die!" (Roller Coaster Kingdom)

I've been hearing all of this recently and was just wondering about why people are forgetting about their very real life to have a good virtual life.
Then my friend told me about a philosophy(?) that his team leader told him. It said that when we choose one decision, say out of two options, we would have chosen the alternate decision in yet another universe; thus, there are several instances of our life, each living differently- but all of us are the same.
I had a thought about this and then realized that I was curious to know about how my other life was going and was the alternate decision (which I didn't choose) working out well for her. That's when I understood the importance of this website called 'Second Life'. You can live a life which you didn't choose and see how it goes. Even companies like Amul have launched a virtual setup to demonstrate its functioning and experiment with any change in production or distribution system, before executing in the real world. Isn't it amazing?

Other than the job that we already have, we can now do farming (FarmVille), own amusement parks (Roller Coaster Kingdom) and also fight wars (Mafia Wars).
All we have to remember before getting into these websites is that we have a real and beautiful life which we should not compromise to live a good life virtually- it is virtual afterall! :)

Relieved!

Finally, all my exams are over! No more internal tests... No more semester exams... No more lab exams... No more lab-viva... No more... well.. whatever it is (read as 'was' from now)...
I didn't realize the importance of this day till a couple of minutes ago... Earlier, I was just wondering why people were so much excited about today. After all, we already knew that some-day we would come across this day...
But only when I was enquiring about the procedures for vacating my room at hostel, a thought flashed into my mind... It said, "Hey, Sharmi! You're not going to be back to this place... May be you should take a final and a closer look at this place... This is the place where you used to study... This is the place where you used to play... Take few snaps with your friends... Or, just hang out with them... Go.. Do something... This is the time... Go...!"

Well, as a whole, college was fun. I happened to learn a lot, not only my acads, but also about life.
Note: I am not nostalgic already- Just looking back at my college chapter :)

Real programmers set the universal constants at the start such that the universe evolves to contain the disk with the data they want.

P.P.S. This part of my life.. this part right here.. This part is called "learning".

A thanksgiving note...

3 more days to go... But it seems like someone had turned my time-machine on and I am already enjoying the 27th of September 2009, my birthday! I've received surprise gifts from many of my friends already (Blame the shipping service for early delivery of gifts- for the first time in its history and also the upcoming pooja holidays when some of my friends will be leaving home).
There are days when I wonder why we celebrate for getting older. Sometimes I feel that birthday is just yet another day in the year. But my friends and family make me feel special on my birthday. They mark the day as one of my memorable days of that year. It's only then that I feel confident to move forward in my life with immense happiness that I find really hard to describe. And, only then I find the pleasure in celebrating the day which, on an optimistic note, is the start of a new and fabulous year. :)
This year, my birthday is going to be the most memorable of all. It's the last birthday I am going to celebrate at college. Celebrating birthday at college/hostel is always fun- Apart from cutting cake, we find most of the pleasure when we see others' faces hidden behind layers of the yummy cake. And then comes the most crucial part- birthday bumps- the merciless act, followed by naughty photo sessions.
I smile involuntarily when I think of all such awesome moments that I had.
I thank all of my loving friends and family members for all that you did, and are still doing, to make me feel happy. My world would have been lifeless without all of you. Hope we remain the same till the end, and further...

    Living a dual life

Alfred Borden: So... we go alone now. Both of us. Only I don't have as far to go as you. Go. You were right, I should have left him to his damn trick. I'm sorry. I'm sorry for a lot of things. I'm sorry about Sarah. I didn't mean to hurt her... I didn't. You go and live your life in full now, all right? You live for both of us.Fallon: Goodbye

Borden and Fallon; two different persons and very apt personas for our own dual life. You may be wondering about what I am talking as 'dual' life. A simple example is that say your friend comes to your home and breaks your favorite flower vase. What do you think in your mind? But then, how do you react? You try to remain social but at the same time your heart feels bad about the shiny cute vase.
So, are we cheating ourselves? Do we do this just to keep our names in the good books of others? Are we losing the simplest form of happiness that we get by means of expressing ourselves? Life's all about choices. Why are we taking this path?

    The Known Unknown

    Murphy's law:
Everything that can possibly go wrong, will go wrong.

Few interesting variants of Murphy's law:

    Principle of Optimum Damage
If there is a possibility of several things going wrong the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong.

    Murphy's Love Laws

All the good ones are taken.
    Corollary:
If the person isn't taken, there's a reason.

    Murphy's employment law:

No matter in which domain you are working, its intersection with the field of your interest is always a NULL set.

    Few computer laws:

    1. Any given program, when running, is obsolete.
    2. If a program is useful, it will have to be changed.
    3. If a program is useless, it will have to be documented.

    Mother's law:

When you are broke, ask mom for a loan. She will help you remember what you wasted all your money on.

    Exam laws:

Eighty percent of the final exam will be based on the one lecture you missed about the one book you didn't read.
If you are given an open-book exam, you will forget your book.
    Corollaries:
    1. If you are given a take home exam, you will forget where you live.
    2. If the test is on-line, you will forget your password

    Other laws:
    1. Any instrument when dropped will roll into the least accessible corner.
    2. The more important it is to get to a website, the greater the chance the server is down.
    3. No matter what result is anticipated, there will always be someone eager to (a) misinterpret it (b) fake it or (c) believe it
    4. Anything good in life is either illegal, immoral or fattening.
    5. Your best golf shot always occurs when playing alone.

And the recursive Murphy's law is:

If Murphy's Law can go wrong, it will.

    Hill's Commentaries on Murphy's Laws:

    1. If we lose much by having things go wrong, take all possible care.
    2. If we have nothing to lose by change, relax.
    3. If we have everything to gain by change, relax.
    4. If it doesn't matter, it does not matter.

    After all of these,

    O'Toole's Commentary:

    Murphy was an optimist.

    P.S. Update on this:
    Today's meeting went well:)

P.P.S. Every episode in our life proves these laws :)

    Jump in :)

Recently, I came across this awesome video and I just wanted to share it here...

    Monday, June 8, 2009

This has never ever happened to me before, but now...

I opened the folder named "Demo" on my desktop - Checked if all the required files were present.
"Okay, everything seems to perfect. I can mail them to my mentor and project manager for the demo at 2.30 pm",I thought.
But suddenly, a voice reminded me to re-check if all the files in the folder were the updated ones and so, I did.
Everything was perfect and so I mailed them.

It was 2.30 pm, but no one was in the meeting room.
So I walked to one of my colleague's place and came to the meeting room with him. But again, there was no one inside. So we had to wait. After 5 mins, everyone started coming one by one.

    The much awaited meeting commenced.

Everyone showed their own demos and stuff one by one. Mine was scheduled towards the end of the meeting.

    tick tock.. tick tock..

"I'll leave it to Sharmi, now", my project manager said.

I took my mentor's laptop and clicked the application. It started loading...
    Then, it was loading...
    Loading.. Loading..

Everyone started giving sighs of whatever- I didn't know. Then I interrupted, "I'll give you the overall picture of this application before we start with the demo". And I explained them about my work and finally looked at the projection screen. It was colored in blue as screensaver was running in my desktop. So I mildly shook my mouse and was shocked to find that it was still loading!

One team member suggested, "You can send me the files and I'll try opening it here". But when I inquired if he had all the required softwares installed in his system, I came to know that there was a pin-hole in my ship, already.

Just then, my mentor realized that he was not able to open some similar applications in his laptop, quite a few minutes before the meeting. Phew.. Now the blame was on whatever- I didn't know, I was happy as far as it was not on me (apparently).

My mentor continued, "We'll schedule this meeting sometime later", and the crowd dispersed.

I came back to my place. I opened the same application. It got loaded in less than 5 seconds.
Well, now? Nothing. I should wait for the next meeting and next time I should check it for atleast 10 times!

    Finagle's corollary to Murphy's Law

"Anything that can go wrong, will— at the worst possible moment"

    2. Schedule an appointment in Outlook to meet a person who is 10 feet away. [To ensure that he stays at his place when I want to meet him. Else I'll have to walk all the way again. :P]
    3. Give excuse that the reason for not staying in touch with few friends is that they rarely come online.

"You hear the door slam and realize there's nowhere left to run
You feel the cold hand and wonder if you'll ever see the sun

You close your eyes and hope that this is just imagination, girl! But all the while you hear the creature creeping up behind
    You're out of time"

These are none other than the lines from The King's song, Thriller. This is a signature song of Michael Jackson which is one of my all-time favorites too. The amazing lyrics of the song need a special mention. To get thrilled, watch the video of this song in darkness. No wonder this is voted as the best pop video ever. And, none other than Michael can do it. Kudos to Michael Jackson!

"It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking in the darkUnder the moonlight, you see a sight that almost stops your heartYou try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make itYou start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes You're paralyzed.
'Cause this is thriller, thriller night"

    My first scribbling...

    Hi everyone!
Before I begin ‘blogging’, I would like to thank few of my pals for suggesting me to start a weblog and few for asking me if I write one!
    Flash Back… Spiral Curves… Retrieving Data…
    In NO particular order:
    1.       After I had narrated some incident,
AJ: It's time for you to start a blog!
(I don't know if there was any hidden sarcasm!J )
    2.       In the Microsoft Internship Final interview, after I told the interviewer that I had designed a blog in ASP.net 2.0,
Ms. Anu (the interviewer): Did you host that blog?
    Me: No…
    Ms. Anu: Do you blog?
Me (smiling, or at least trying to): No…
    (Bad! Too many NOs!!!! )
    3.       While discussing about blogs written by classmates,
Mary: Hey, why don't you both blog?
    (Referring to Dakshina and me)
    4.       When I was passing some comment about some blog to my friend Sundar,
Sundar: Your Honour, Aren't you starting a blog?
    5. Yesterday, again..
Sundar: What about your much awaited blog? :)
